STAGING THE FUTURE: THE EVOLUTION OF DRAMA EDUCATION IN THE CHINESE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM

This paper explores the evolution of drama education in China in the context of various educational reforms since 1949. Following the Reform and Opening-up Policy, drama transitioned from being absent in the curriculum to becoming a more integral component of the arts.
The paper begins by highlighting the cultural, educational, and social significance of drama education in China. It examines how the role of drama has evolved through key changes in art curricula, including policy developments, school systems, and pedagogical approaches. Drawing on a comprehensive literature review, the study offers recommendations for enhancing and implementing drama education, targeting policymakers, curriculum developers, schools, teachers, and research communities. These recommendations encompass adapting teaching methods, fostering cultural exchanges, and ensuring alignment between drama education, educational reforms, and cultural values.
In conclusion, this paper discusses the growing importance and recognition of drama education in China, its historical progression through different reform stages, and strategies for its future development and implementation.
