REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME USING VIRTUAL PATIENT SYSTEM: LESSONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This intervention study addresses the pressing issue of sexual and reproductive health rights, particularly the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancies among adolescents. The paper introduces a prototype based on a Virtual Patient Simulation system, an e-learning platform primarily used for medical or healthcare education. Here we enhanced this usage to inform and teaching the community for the prevention of threats to adolescent development.

Data through a health mentorship programme in collaboration with medical students were collected in order to contextualise the applications.

The prototype, which integrates tele-consultation and in-person consultation methods, aims to enhance user learning and increase feedback. The study, involving different stakeholders, discusses the challenges faced in implementing the system, including misconceptions about sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The results suggest that a significant number of the teachers and pupils did not understand the significance of increased priori knowledge of strategies for the prevention of risky health behaviours. The findings underscore the potential of virtual patient (VP) systems in addressing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) challenges. Our suggested approach to health information delivery nevertheless has a potential; when and if the administrators and clients in the community understand why it is important to gain general knowledge and increase strategies about reproductive health.
