This virtual presentation will provide a current overview of the varied information security threats that are present in modern higher education environments. With the continued rise of distance and online education, it is essential for all higher education stakeholders to become aware of information security threats and how they can be addressed. Such threats include the use of malware, hacking, infiltration of secure databases, and inadvertent or malicious release of protected private information. These vulnerabilities to higher education range from students to faculty and administration alike and exist within an ever-evolving national and international regulatory environment encompassing data protection for all users of organizational technical resources. The presentation aims to both educate participants about the information technology security issues present within higher education, particularly within the larger framework of online education) and propose solutions that every higher education organizational stakeholder should consider integrating.
