The rapid adoption of AI technologies such as ChatGPT in educational environments has brought significant benefits and potential opportunities, as well as certain concerns. AI has the capability to revolutionize various aspects of education by offering personalized learning experiences, automating administrative tasks, and providing instant access to vast amounts of information. However, these advancements also pose challenges, particularly in terms of ensuring the ethical and responsible use of AI. ChatGPT, a state-of-the-art language model developed by OpenAI, exemplifies both the potential and the complexities associated with integrating AI into educational settings.

This paper presents an analysis of student attitudes towards the use of ChatGPT in the learning process. The aim of the study is to determine student perceptions regarding the following aspects: potential privacy and integrity issues, possible misuse, and measures for the responsible use of AI in education.

A qualitative research approach was employed, utilizing a descriptive research method. The research instrument was specifically designed for this study and involved structured written interviews. The purposive sample comprised 54 students in the initial years of their studies at universities in Serbia and Spain. The results indicate that students have diverse opinions about the use of ChatGPT, but they share concerns about privacy and data security. Students are aware of various issues posed by the use of ChatGPT, particularly those related to academic integrity and misuse, such as plagiarism and the spread of misinformation.

These findings provide valuable insights into student opinions and can serve as a foundation for further research and the development of guidelines to ensure the responsible integration of AI tools in higher education. By addressing these critical issues, the study aims to contribute to the ongoing discourse on the role of AI in education, emphasizing the importance of balancing technological advancements with ethical considerations. The insights gained from this research underscore the necessity of creating robust frameworks that support the positive impacts of AI while mitigating potential risks, thus ensuring that AI technologies like ChatGPT can be effectively and responsibly utilized in higher education.
