The DEM4PED project (Data Exchange Model for Positive Energy Districts) will enable communities to share renewable energy in a collaborative, easy way based on blockchain and advanced artificial intelligence (AI). This project is developed by several partners: OSTIM Technical University (Turkey), Masaryk University Institute of Computer Science (Czech Republic), Software Imagination and Vision SRL SIMAVI (Romania) along with energy companies, technology firms and governmental agencies on local level. It aims to facilitate energy producers- people who generate renewable energy (solar and wind)- to trade with others via smart contracts. These smart contracts ensure that the supply and demand of energy are matched, thus facilitating a reduction in transmission and storage costs.
The majority of blockchain platforms with embedded combination of blockchain technology solutions are computing- and resource- intensive, and hence not entirely suitable for smart energy applications. We considered the requirements of smart energy systems and accordingly identify appropriate blockchain technology solutions for smart energy applications. Our analysis can help in the development of flexible blockchain platforms for smart energy systems.
The project is revolving around three components PEDNET-Blockchain Test Net V.1, Bridge Services and Artificial Intelligence Support. PEDNET-Blockchain for managing smart contracts and energy transactions Bridge Services are concerned with data collection from smart meters and other IoT devices, whereas AI Support involves decision making using machine learning methods. Together, these parts enable communities to trade renewable energy and facilitate a shift toward cleaner, more sustainable cities.
Using your own energy produced in your house roof-installed PV and selling over-production to the nearest and most fitted neighborhood or vice-versa according to the smart contracts or agreements instantly done by DaaP's (Decentralized Applications) sounds remarkable effect on the green energy need and transformation.
By this project the capability builds by the small-scale PV producers & consumers integration will be extended to the all kind of private / public, low-medium-large scale producers and consumers. Also additional to the solar energy the other renewable energy production resources such as wind, hydrogen will be integrated in order to get product diversification.
DE4PED uses blockchain to make the management of energy transactions more transparent, secure and resilient. The AI component identifies the best methods for trading energy, which is essentially a real-time process of determining how and when to consume or generate energy. So, DEM4PED intends to provide a state-of-the-art solution for the functionality of positive energy districts, overcoming key technological and regulatory barriers.
