The modern education system is undergoing significant changes due to irreversible progressive factors, which include rapid development of telecommunication technologies, the overflow of dubious information from the internet, the shift in the status of a teacher, the appearance of artificial intelligence etc. This dynamic and changing reality challenges both students and teachers and requires adaptation. The changes in learning environment are necessary for improving the professional skills of students who are bound to face new challenges in their professional activity.
Our research aimed at introducing possible ways of remodeling the learning environment of pre-service teachers of foreign languages implementing the elements of innovative approaches into their professional training. We define learning environment as a complex of various factors such as diverse physical locations, contexts, and cultures in which students learn and which influence the learning process and its results. We presume that the use of the elements of integral approach and context learning can upgrade the learning environment. We understand the integral approach as a comprehensive methodology that combines different theories, methods, or approaches to gain a more complete understanding, to find solutions to complex problems or to create more holistic and effective solutions. We presume that learning in context could help students appreciate the relevance of disciplinary knowledge and skills, increasing their motivation and engagement. The research was conducted within the frames of the course “Methods of teaching English”.
The preparatory part of the research focused on analyzing the learning environment of the university students and working out the strategy and criteria for its evaluation in accordance with the goal of the study. Besides, it included adapting the innovative approaches to the learning process. The realization part comprised organizing the course study in the form of context activity with elements of the integral approach. We used the classical logical scheme of any learning environment, which consists of the following components: spatial-objective, social and psycho-didactic. The resultative part involved control, evaluation and reflection. The research results showed positive dynamics in the development of the professional skills of the pre-service teachers. Reflection survey also showed increased motivation to mastering professional skills and interest in future profession.
