C. Chiorean
The paper explores the relevance of the Service Learning method on students, on their university training program within the Faculty of Political, Administrative, and Communication Sciences, Babes Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania, as well as on the beneficiary community. The project pursued both the satisfaction of the students' need for learning and that of supporting a community in difficulty.
The study examines how participation in Service Learning projects contributes to the development of practical skills, increased social responsibility, and improved academic results. The project involved 90 students from the Faculty of Education, who collaborated with local organizations to solve real community problems.
The research methodology included a case study, direct observation, student questionnaires, and interviews with community representatives and teaching staff.
The study's results revealed a significant increase in the students' social involvement, improved communication and critical thinking skills, and a better understanding of their role in society. At the same time, the community benefited from innovative solutions to the problems it faced, strengthening the relationship between the university and the local society.
The findings suggest that integrating Service Learning into the university curriculum can benefit students and communities. The case study recommends extending this method to the national level, with specific adaptations according to the needs of each community.
