Cultural heritage is a field that produces vast amounts of data, but it is also a place where the meaning of data is extremely important, especially to the extent that it relates to users' opinions, perceptions, and interpretations. How each of us perceives culture is a deep personal matter and the need for personalized experiences cannot be ignored. Showing tailored information to users, based on their interest, behavior, and surrounding context, and providing additional means for interacting with the knowledge presented, are necessary features of modern software for presenting cultural-historic content. That can save time and energy by reducing their need to search through large amounts of data. In this paper, we discuss key technologies such as Virtual Worlds, Artificial Intelligence, Semantic Web Technologies, Metadata and Cultural Heritage, Digitization of Content, Digitization of Content, Digital Libraries and Virtual Museums involved in visualizing rich cultural heritage content and take a closer look at different approaches for its personalization. We also discuss different recommendation systems like collaborative filtering, content-based filtering, utility-based, demographic-based, knowledge-based, and hybrid-based, presenting the specifics, advantages, and disadvantages for each. Finally, we summarize the specific implementation requirements and provide examples of how that personalization can be achieved.
