This is a follow up study on the research that was conducted in Onanime, a rural community in the Northern Namibia. The Onanime community mainly depends on subsistence agriculture for its livelihood within its traditions and customs. The study investigated the community’s lived experiences in the context of ethics and environmental sustainability. The study found that the community is faced with numerous sustainability challenges on the use of the environment such as sand mining, destruction of the ecosystems and historical and cultural sites. This is not in compliance with the national policies and regulations on the sustainable use of the environment. Hence, there is a need to restore the destructed land and promote sustainable use of the ecosystem in accordance with Sustainable Development Goals. This can be done through diversification of agricultural activities and practices for the sustainable livelihood of the community. Guided by the Namibia policies and regulations and the findings of the earlier phase of the study, we will develop a working framework on the sustainable use of agricultural activities and practices within the community’s immediate environment. A desktop review of applicable national policies and regulations will be conducted to establish how these policies promote the sustainable utilization of the environment. A site visit will also be done to assess the way the community used the environment. A working framework that will be developed as a result of this study will enable the community to protect, restore, manage and use their environment sustainably and prevent biodiversity loss.
