Self-esteem, a critical component of psychological well-being reflects an individual's perception of their own worth and value. This study is an attempt to explore the effects of various counselling techniques which have proven to significantly impact on an individual’s self-esteem among past studies. The study’s method is a systematic search of counselling techniques and self-esteem on Scopus, Google Schoolar and PubMed to identify with past and current findings on this literature and to determine which counselling techniques have proven to be effective on self-esteem. The total studies identified were 18,329 of which 16 met the inclusion criteria for the study. A total of 10 counselling techniques were examined. The result of the findings revealed that all 10 techniques have a positive impact on self-esteem with no significant difference. However, this systematic review concludes that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, especially Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT) have more effectiveness on self-esteem than other counselling techniques. As a further recommendation the use of cognitive (REBT therapies should be utilized more for individuals' seeking to improve their self-esteem.
