This study offers a comparative bibliometric analysis of digital assessment (DA) practices in higher education between Romania and Moldova, utilizing Biblioshiny to review 588 articles indexed in Web of Science. By examining key research themes, collaboration networks, and publication trends, the study reveals significant differences and common challenges in DA despite the shared language and cultural heritage.

Romanian researchers tend to emphasize technological innovations, policy impacts, and the integration of DA tools within educational frameworks. On the other hand, Moldovan research, while still developing, focuses more on pedagogical strategies, digital literacy issues, and practical applications of DA methods.

The findings show that Romania benefits from a more established research infrastructure and stronger institutional support, which allows for broader exploration and implementation of advanced DA technologies. In contrast, Moldovan researchers face obstacles such as limited funding, fewer collaborative networks, and infrastructural constraints, which limit the wider adoption and innovation of DA practices. Both countries face common challenges, including ensuring the reliability and validity of DA tools, bridging the digital divide among students and educators, and effectively integrating DA into existing educational systems. There is also a critical need for continuous professional development to enhance educators' digital competencies. This study highlights the importance of tailored policy interventions and increased collaborative efforts to bridge the research and implementation gaps between Romania and Moldova. By addressing their unique challenges and leveraging their strengths, both countries can improve their DA practices to enhance educational outcomes in higher education.
