The aim of the research carried out at Ponta Gêa Secondary School, in the city of Beira, was to propose the use of the Google Classroom platform, to enable the mediation of the teaching and learning process, to improve the quality of the General Secondary Distance Learning Program and thus make life easier for the students and teachers who attend distance learning.

On the other hand, it was found that the institution does not use computerized systems to support the teaching-learning process, which causes weaknesses in this modality. During the learning process, students do not have the opportunity to interact synchronously with tutors or with each other to exchange experiences flexibly. Still, they are limited to writing down the difficulties encountered during the process for presentation in subsequent sessions. The other option to get help for the uncertainties is to visit the Student Learning Support Centre.

To carry out the study, a questionnaire survey was administered to collect the necessary data. The target population was 246, the sample size was 102, with a margin of error of 7.5%, and the confidence level of the data collected was 95%. The sample size (102) was subdivided as follows: 60 students were in grade 8, 35 were in grade 9, and 7 were teachers.

The results showed that students and teachers face difficulties in mediating distance learning. In addition, failure to use technological tools will jeopardize the teaching process and the transformation of distance learning into face-to-face teaching and consequently fail to achieve the objectives set. The research also showed that the students and teachers have a profile that makes it possible to use Google Classroom in the General Secondary Distance Learning Program activities.
