Teacher support is currently undergoing a significant transformation driven by technology, particularly through the integration of Open Educational Resources (OER) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Teachers need to improve their skills and competencies in various areas and make most use of these. To overcome the limited time available for teacher training, new concepts and approaches are required to efficiently educate teachers.
This paper introduces a new concept called “OER-Kitchen”, an innovative approach, a community and platform, utilizing AI and information design to enhance the creation process of Open Educational Resources (OER). The OER-Kitchen is planned to be an online portal and a physical teaching lab for teacher support. The lab is planned to be set within a University's Teacher Education Center, to serve as a practical testbed for the co-creation of scalable, adaptable, and personalized content, catering to the diverse needs of learners and educators. Just as the kitchen is not only a place for cooking, kitchens in general are also a place for social interactions and work activities. In the OER-Kitchen, the cooking/creation of OERs also extends beyond just content development, to learning experiences fostering collaborative knowledge sharing. The OER-Kitchen platform serves as a central hub where educators can access resources and training to simplify OER development. It features open content as well as collaborative tools for community-driven OER creation. Additionally, it introduces Information Design principles to facilitate the creation of student-friendly designs. Teachers become information designers, and trends such as adaptive learning technologies, intelligent tutoring systems, and AI-driven analytics are taught to shape the educational landscape.
The OER-Kitchen represents a collaborative approach to address educational challenges by fostering a supportive local community who shares experiences and resources.
