USING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TO DESIGN A PRACTICAL PRODUCT IN ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY LESSONS
D. Zemljak
In recent years, the use of modern learning technologies has become an integral part of the educational process. Artificial intelligence has also made an important contribution in this area, providing innovative approaches to learning and teaching. It also offers many new and different possibilities for teaching, it can enhance the learning experience by providing a personalised learning experience and it can provide additional support to the teacher in the preparation and delivery of lessons. It is particularly interesting to explore the possibilities of using artificial intelligence in the teaching of engineering and technology, where practical skills and theoretical knowledge are blended.
The study presented in this paper focused on the use of the ChatGPT model, which was used to generate ideas for making practical products from different materials. We tried to find a way to give appropriate guidance to the ChatGPT model by means of different prompts. It was necessary to obtain appropriate guidance that would enable students to make a practical product in an engineering and technology lesson. The aim was to get guidance that would not need to be specially corrected by the teacher. The research showed that ChatGPT offers a range of interesting and useful suggestions that can serve as an excellent starting point. However, it was found that some of the ideas were weak in parts, which highlights the importance of critical judgement by the teacher before these ideas are put into practice. Teachers need to carefully consider and adapt the suggestions to ensure their feasibility and safety.
ChatGPT has been found to be a useful tool for generating ideas for the development of a practical product in engineering and technology lessons. It can be used to generate innovative products that stimulate creativity and practical skills in engineering and technology lessons. However, it is essential that each idea is critically evaluated and, if necessary, adapted to ensure successful and safe implementation in the learning process.
