Given the current reality of the Armed Forces, the adoption of recruitment and retention strategies becomes essential for the sector's functioning, particularly the adoption of career management practices. This article aims to understand the existing career management practices in the Armed Forces through a systematic literature review based on the PRISMA model. To this end, four databases were consulted: Scopus, Web of Science, Armed Forces & Society, and Military Psychology, using the combination of keywords [(“career development") OR ("career self-management") OR ("self-career management") OR (“career management”) OR (“career intervention”)] AND [("Army") OR ("Military*")]. Our methodology involved the screening of 226 publications, leading to a final analysis of 43 articles. The articles selected for the systematic literature review highlight the importance of career development practices, such as mentoring, career counseling, and networking, and their influence on successful career development and transition, both within and outside the Armed Forces.
Keywords: Career management, career self-management, armed forces.
