With the progression of technology and innovation in the modern era of the digital world, along with an increase in the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in many tasks. Understanding how AI is impacting professions is crucial to helping workers, employers, educators and policymakers prepare adequately for the future. Therefore, the development of this article arises from the need to understand and document these disruptive changes. The main objective of this article is to identify and characterize challenges that different occupations are facing related with the implementation of such technologies in their work contexts. The research work builds on a systematic literature review with the purpose ofleading to the identification of the challenges and trends associated with the adoption of artificial intelligence. To this end the study resorted to Scopus database allowing for an exploratory analysis of the concepts pertinent to this subject, using the terms "AI" and "automation", leading to the identification of 293 publications. The study seeks to answer the following research questions: (i) Which sectors are most affected by the growing use of artificial intelligence? (ii) Which professions are threatened with disappearance with the advance of artificial intelligence and which new careers are emerging? The research allows us to deepen our understanding of the impact and relevance of the topic investigated in the study, serving as a basis for further research, linked to the rapid proliferation of the deployment of artificial intelligence, as well as the growing advances in virtual world technologies and platforms.
