As the adoption of generative AI in educational settings becomes increasingly prevalent, understanding its implications for learning and teaching is essential. This paper presents findings from online interviews with 21 students at the Center for Applied Game Studies at the University for Continuing Education Krems. It examines their perceptions and expectations regarding the use of generative AI in enhancing their academic experiences. The study highlights specific applications that could improve learning outcomes and addresses students’ concerns about ethical issues and maintaining academic integrity with the use of AI. Furthermore, it suggests potential use cases for generative AI in university curricula, offering paths for these tools to be embedded into educational frameworks to provide practical experience and deepen understanding of emergent technologies. By capturing student voices, this paper aims to foster a nuanced discussion among educators, administrators, and students on integrating generative AI in a way that aligns with ethical standards and enhances the educational landscape.
