3D printing or additive manufacturing makes it possible to create complex three-dimensional objects quickly, with high precision and at a low cost. This technology, and especially the FDM (fused deposition modeling) method, is rapidly spreading to a multitude of fields, providing innovative solutions to traditional manufacturing methods. In the veterinary field, this article describes an innovative application: the printing of animal bones in PLA (polylactic acid) to be used by veterinary students for the learning, differentiation and treatment of bone fractures. Compared to other traditional learning methods, such as the study of anatomy, radiology or the use of mechanical simulators, 3D printed bones are a good complement to improve the learning of animal anatomy and the diagnosis and treatment of fractures in animals.
