Abstract:
The growing offer of subscription television, the development of technologies to support broadcasting and viewing, as well as the emergence of streaming platforms showed broadcasters and audiovisual producers that there were other audiovisual formats more adapted to the daily lives of the audience. That’s because the way of telling stories has been transformed thanks to a culture of convergence, inserted in a network society under constant remediation processes.

In this sense, transmedia narratives allow different media to be used to create a story, in such a way that each part is self-sufficient and at the same time they are part of the same storyworld. Transmedia narratives have multiple entry points and are open to change according to the uses and interactions of the audience, since the narrative paths are not defined a priori.

Web series conceived as transmedia narratives maintain the audiovisual tradition of serial and fractional narratives with the difference of being products designed by and for digital platforms. They are a direct result of the convergence and remediation processes and are characterized by flexibility in their production and distribution. In addition, as native formats of the digital environment, they allow the use of interactivity resources with viewers and between viewers, which creates a relationship of public engagement with the content.

This article describes a framework used to develop a Web series as a transmedia project in the classroom. For this, a pilot project was carried out involving students of the Masters in Audiovisual Communication and Multimedia at IADE - European University. The proposal framework follows an iterative methodology and involves intermediary deliverables developed through the project. The final outcomes are a transmedia project, a promotional video and a business plan.

This article describes the proposal framework and discusses the results, in order to enhance transmedia literacy as well as skills and strategies to improve formal education.
