Abstract:
Games for innovative global citizenship education for the Sustainable Development Goals, or Games for Goals, is a project financed by Erasmus+ under contract n.º 2022 – 1 - FR01 - KA220 – SCH - 000089401. The project, created by a consortium of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) and Higher Education Institutions (HEI) from 5 European countries, led by the Le Partenariat, addresses school education and aims to support teachers, school leaders and other teaching professions through the stimulation of innovative learning and teaching practices. It aims to achieve such objectives while focusing on topics related to global citizenship & sustainable development (GC&SD).

The United Nations approved, in 2015, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The agenda intents to provide a set of guidelines for peace and prosperity for people and the planet. The most visible aspect of this agenda is a definition of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). They represent “an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership” (https://sdgs.un.org/goals). To end poverty, we need to improve education and health. Bu to end poverty, we also need to achieve economic growth and development. Economic growth can only be achieved by a reduction in inequality and by fighting climate change and protecting oceans and forests. Therefore, all the SDG are related and are needed in order to achieve the desired outcome.

Games for Goals will support the development, use of and access to innovative educational activities on GC&SD for primary school teachers in Europe, by gathering existing innovative educational resources into a European catalogue, therefore providing teachers with a diversity of activities on the Social Development Goals (SDG). To achieve this objective, it will create 3 games (adapting conventional learning content into innovative activities), and deliver an associated teacher’s handbook with each game, to facilitate education to GC&SD using turnkey resources. Games for Goals will also support the development of skills and methodologies for teachers to provide their pupils with innovative educational activities on GC&SD. To achieve this objective, it will provide training to teachers on the SDG, active pedagogy, creative design and innovative education. Additionally, it will also create a methodology, available online, to empower teachers to develop their own methodologies to teach sustainability, related to specific local issues and based on learning content of their choice related to the SDG.

This paper intends to depict the essential aspects related to Games for Goals. Introduction presents the context in which the project was defined. Afterwards. methodological aspects related to the project implementation are presented. Later, expected results are described.
