The integration of AI in primary and secondary education has the potential to transform teaching methodologies, making it crucial to examine its potential applications. This paper introduces the first phase of the international PAIDEIA project (PAIDEIA: Preparing teachers for the AI Development in Education as an Innovative Asset), which aims to prepare teachers for the ethical use of artificial intelligence in the teaching-learning process. The project's first phase of research focused on the needs of teachers and the reference framework of digital competencies in Spain.

Following this first needs detection, the PAIDEIA project is developing activities that equip teachers with the necessary competencies to understand, apply, and manage the characteristics and potential of AI in education. This encompasses the personalization of learning through adaptive activities, the creation of automated assessment tools that can provide immediate feedback, and the continuous training of teachers. This enables them to access training materials that facilitate the integration of AI into their pedagogical practices in an effective manner and address the ethical challenges that AI implementation entails.

Through its focus on teacher training and the creation of a permanent European forum on AI and education, the PAIDEIA project seeks to build the capacity of teachers as catalysts in the sequencing and orchestration of AI-based teaching. Aligned with EU frameworks, this project aims to generate a lasting impact on educational and training reforms.
