DIGITAL USES AND PRACTICES IN SECONDARY SCHOOL - ACHIEVING DIGITAL LITERACY

Our study focuses on describing and analyzing the digital activities that teachers and students engage in both in-person and online at Georges Seurat Middle School in Courbevoie, Île-de-France. We also examine the digital content available to students in face-to-face, distance learning, and hybrid courses. This qualitative research is based on an average of 314 hours of observation across various digital projects, including 80 hours per academic year beginning in 2021. We sampled 397 students in grades seven through ten. Additionally, this paper primarily focuses on the findings of our quantitative study.

The qualitative research was conducted during educational sessions in the school's digital collaborative space, OZE92. Several digital projects aimed at enhancing media and information education were established, including a fake news project, an O Lab citizen project, a media class, and other projects. Students collaborated online under teacher guidance to complete projects.

The qualitative study's findings indicate that group work in online collaborative spaces like OZE92 engages students in active learning, motivates them to complete digital projects, and helps struggling students feel a sense of belonging to the collaborative group.

Furthermore, our research shows how the role of the teacher has evolved over time. Teachers are no longer the sole providers of knowledge; students are now actively involved in creating it. The teacher's role has shifted to that of a supervisor.

The aim of this paper is to present the outcomes of our quantitative study, which includes a sample group of students', teachers', and parents' digital behaviors and usage in both public and private settings. Our samples consist of 200 individuals for each category. This investigation provides extensive insights into the requirements and expectations for education, with the goal of advancing digital education.
