Why 'grit' is not greatEvent:
EDULEARN18Session time: Monday, 2nd of July from 15:00 to 16:45 (UTC+02:00)
Session type: INTERACTIVE
Room: Interactive
Session chair: David Webster. University of Gloucestershire (UNITED KINGDOM)
The session will open with a review of the current rhetorical and ideological landscape in education, including notions of challenge, student anxiety and discourses of resilience.
We will use the semi-populated on-line workspace activity, as a space to collectively share ideas of the telos of education, and explore underlying ideas in contemporary framings of student outcomes and social aspirations.
We will then move to a curated conversation, in groups, about how we can promote, challenge and disrupt these notions through practical pedagogy. The tables-groups will be themes around the 5 elements of the 'Weary' model of pedagogy.
The session will close via a plenary synthesising these ideas, and a sharing of them to the on-line workspace, which will allow the participants to deploy the strategies developed, and work as ongoing resource for the collaborative sharing of experience, and results. This will give the workshop a life beyond the event, and an evolving legacy.
